Logo Sellaronda mtb Tour

The Sellaronda MTB Tour is one of the most spectacular mountain bike rides in the Dolomites, looping around the iconic Sella massif across four famous passes: Sella, Gardena, Campolongo, and Pordoi. With our certified MTB Academy guides, you will tackle the entire circuit safely, riding the right trails for your skill level without getting lost at intersections or on unmarked sections.

Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise

The Sellaronda MTB Tour is a loop mountain bike tour around the Sella Group in the UNESCO Dolomites. It can be tackled in clockwise direction (≈58 km, 370 m net pedaling) or counterclockwise (≈55 km, 1,050 m net), using lifts to reduce effort. Perfect for intermediate/advanced bikers seeking trails and scenic views.

Clockwise direction (orange markings):

  • Distance: ~57–60 km, pedaled ascent ~370–560 m
  • Total elevation gain (including lifts): ~3,700–3,800 m
  • Duration: 5–9 hours, including lunch break
  • Level: intermediate/advanced (trails S1‑S2-S3)

Counterclockwise direction (green markings):

  • Distance: ~55–58 km, pedaling on ~1,000 m (min)
  • Total elevation gain: ~3,300–3,800 m
  • Time: 6–9 hours, more demanding but very scenic

Sellaronda with a guide: Why it’s worth it

The Sellaronda by MTB is spectacular, but often underrated. Many think following signs or GPS is enough, but the reality on the trails is different. That’s why a guide from our MTB Academy is your best investment:

  • Perfect trails for your level: The Sellaronda offers countless variations. Your guide instantly assesses your skills and chooses the ideal trails on the spot, avoiding sections that are too dangerous or boring.
  • Zero navigation stress (Goodbye Komoot!): Misleading forks and missed signs waste time and patience. Follow your guide and enjoy the scenery in complete peace of mind, without constantly checking your phone.
  • “Secret Trails” you won’t find on apps: The most flowing singletracks and best viewpoints are not marked anywhere. Only a local guide knows the secret variations that make your tour truly unique.

📍 FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about the Sellaronda MTB Tour

Yes, a guide is highly recommended. The route is not always well marked and navigation can be difficult, especially for first-timers. With a guide, you avoid route mistakes, choose the trails best suited to your level, and enjoy a complete and safe experience.

The Sellaronda MTB Tour requires good physical fitness and some mountain biking experience on alpine trails. However, our guides assess participants’ levels and can adapt the tour by choosing the most suitable trails, also thanks to the use of lift systems.

The guided tour is available from mid-June to the end of September using the lift systems. Before or after that period, it can be done with an e-bike. We organize the tour as a group ride every Tuesday and Saturday, or you can book a private tour on any day. 👉 We recommend booking in advance, especially during the summer months.

Meeting in the morning (between 8:30 and 9:00), use of lift systems, scenic breaks, and lunch stop. Return in the afternoon between 15:30 and 17:00.

  • A well-maintained fullsuspension MTB (muscle-powered or e-bike)
  • Mandatory helmet, gloves, glasses, elbow- & knee protections, backpack with water
  • Supersummer Card (day pass) for using the lift facilities. You can buy it on the morning of the tour at the first lift station. Daily price: € 65,00

From 5 to 9 hours, depending on direction, pace, and breaks.

The main difference lies not in the climbs, but in the descents. Along the approximately 60 km of the Sellaronda MTB Tour, you’ll ride on various terrains: from gravel roads to single trails with steps, rocks, and roots.

The clockwise route is generally considered easier because it involves less uphill pedaling (around 370–560 m vs. ~1,000 m counterclockwise), but keep in mind that the descents can still be technically demanding for less experienced riders.

Absolutely. With a guide, you avoid wrong turns, ride trails suited to your skill level, and enjoy a safe and smooth experience. You don’t have to worry about anything – just relax and enjoy the day to the fullest.
